 Shear walls offer cost-effective engineering solutions, resisting lateral forces during earthquakes by preventing easy bending. Anchored to existing wall segments and the foundation, they prevent separation and collapse, effectively distributing the building's weight.

 Steel or grade beams function like shear walls, supporting the building's weight on the foundation. While effective, this retrofitting method may incur higher costs due to using quality steel for beam construction. 

 Cantilever I-Beams are a top choice for retrofitting, particularly for smaller buildings with sound wood frames. However, pressure from the wood components against the steel columns can lead to potential damage or breakage during earthquakes.
